Whether you knew Jason Lucas personally or knew of him, you know that Jason lived a long and courageous life with Duchenne’s Muscular Dystrophy (“DMD”).  Jason was diagnosed with DMD at the age of 7 in 1990. During this time, the diagnosis was not one that was known to the Lucas family. Scurrying from their primary care doctor, they landed at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (“CHOP”). This year’s event will mark the 3rd Annual Jason Lucas Memorial Golf outing, and the Lucas family is pleased to announce that this year’s recipient of proceeds will be provided to The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (“CHOP”) – Pulmonary Division. CHOP provided a glimmer of hope with the knowledge, educators, clinicians, and providers who knew what DMD was and how to steer them into very uncharted territory. The amount of support and resources afforded to them was instantaneous and immense. Since Jason endured such a long life with DMD, the encounters with all physicians played an integral part in his care. One physician who must be mentioned is Dr. Howard Panitch, Pulmonary Division. Dr. Panitch and Jason’s lives collided haphazardly and ironically during a challenging inpatient stay at CHOP. Dr. Panitch and his team enabled Jason to have such an extended quality of life with their cutting-edge techniques. The Lucas family would be remiss to deny that they felt he entered their lives through a higher power and with purpose. 

The 1st Annual Jason Lucas Memorial Golf outing was a great success for which the Lucas family was able to donate $10,000 to the Muscular Dystrophy Association (“MDA”) in Jason’s memory that will help other families in the way MDA helped the Lucas family in their time of need when navigating thru a new diagnosis. Following that up with the 2ndAnnual successful event, and the very gracious recipient was the Bridesburg Boys and Girls Club in the amount of $11,000. The Bridesburg Boys and Girls Club helped Jason and his family in allowing Jason to be a normal (Burg) kid! Jason had many cherished memories at the club, and his family was honored to give back to a community that “made them”!
