SAVE THE DATE!

Whether you knew Jason Lucas personally or knew of him, you know that Jason lived a long and courageous life with Duchenne’s Muscular Dystrophy (DMD).  Jason was diagnosed with DMD at the age of 7 in 1990.  Jason grew up in Bridesburg and the family endured this diagnosis while Jason attended All Saint’s School and an active member of the Bridesburg Boys and Girls Club.  Even with a diagnosis that carried a heavy weight, Jason moved through his days as a child with such grace and always with a great smile upon his face. There were many people who had a keen interest in Jason’s diagnosis and such respect for Jason and his family.  Countless people went above and beyond to do what they could to make Jason’s journey a little simpler and by making accommodations so that Jason would not miss out on being a kid in the Burg!  

 To that, the Bridesburg Boys and Girls Club played an integral part with the challenges that Jason faced early on. From building a ramp in the front entrance so that Jason could enter the club in his wheelchair, to a member of the club meeting him at the school bus so that he could attend the after school program and the cherry on top was that Jason attended the summer camp program and was able to enjoy his summers there immensely! Several of he trips that they would go on were adventures for Jason! The staff at the club during this time were nothing short of AMAZING. We’d like to name everyone that impacted Jason’s time there but there isn’t enough paper! We would, however, be remiss if we didn’t pay homage to Jeff Waldron, Kathy Sharkey & Cindy Sabatino who were pillars of advocacy and made certain that Jason was included and felt the love and support. 

The 1st Annual Jason Lucas Memorial Golf outing was a great success! Such success that we were able to donate $10,000 to the Muscular Dystrophy Association (“MDA”) in Jason’s memory that will help other families in the way MDA helped the Lucas family in their time of need when navigating through a new diagnosis.  

This year’s event will mark the 2nd Annual Jason Lucas Memorial Golf outing and the Lucas family is pleased to announce that this year’s recipient of proceeds will be provided to the Bridesburg Boys and Girls Club in Jason’s memory.  As mentioned previously, The Bridesburg Boys and Girls Club had a tremendous impact on Jason’s life and the Lucas family is overjoyed to give back to such a worthy cause in Jason’s memory.
